New York trio Sunflower Bean—vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming (she/her), guitarist and vocalist Nick Kivlen (he/him), and drummer Olive Faber (she/they)—release their long-awaited new album, Headful of Sugar.
To celebrate the release, today the band share a new video for “In Flight”. Of the track and video Kivlen says, “This song is a romantic vision of meeting a lover, running away together, and entering a dangerous new world. It's less safe but also less suffocating. The video follows me through a series of twilight zone-style mishaps as I search to be seen or understood. Things only improve when I finally find like-minded people. Is it a dream? Is it the multiverse? It’s for the viewer to decide.”

An indictment of the so-called American Dream, “Roll The Dice'' was written about how many young adults now need side-hustles to secure their futures.

For those of you who were with us last week, you will fully understand why it’s taken us a full week to recover from the 10 Years of Mom + Pop anniversary celebration. We are so grateful to be able to celebrate 10 years of independent music with such incredible artists, our friends/family and (of course) our city. Infinite thanks to Courtney Barnett, Tom Morello, Sleigh Bells, Neon Indian, Alice Merton and Sunflower Bean for lighting up the Brooklyn Steel stage. To our friends at Bowery Presents, we could not have done it without you. The evening would not have been complete without Flume and Future Classic providing the sounds for the after party at Good Room. The energy in both of these rooms will serve to motivate us as we look ahead to the next decade. If this past week is any indication, we can’t wait for what lies ahead. We are still gathering all of our thoughts, photos and videos, but for now here are some of our favorites.
