Tycho
As Tycho, Scott Hansen blends swirling melodies into vaguely triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend into the horizon.
The San Francisco-based Hansen began releasing music in the early 2000s with The Science of Patterns EP. His first full-length, Sunrise Projector, came out in 2004, and the critical acclaim continued in 2006 with the release of Past Is Prologue. In 2011, his meticulous process saw the release of Dive, the first record in a trilogy that was followed by Awake in 2014 and the GRAMMY-Nominated Epoch in 2016.
Hansen expanded the scope of his project with the addition of vocalist Saint Sinner on 2019’s Weather, his second GRAMMY nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. That release was quickly followed by its instrumental companion record Simulcast in early 2020. Over the course of the last fifteen years, Hansen has developed from a delicate solo performer into the iconic frontman of a powerful five-piece live band that brings his compositions to life. Tycho has evolved from a singular to a plural, and from an electronic, ambient experiment to a live audio-visual experience that fans travel the world over to see.

Tycho is back with his new album Simulcast, a companion album to GRAMMY-nominated album Weather which was released last July. With Simulcast, Tycho reimagined Weather, which featured lyrics and vocals by Saint Sinner, as an instrumental album. Diving deeper into the creative process, Tycho’s Scott Hanson states: “A simulcast is the transmission of a program across different mediums and in different languages. With these two albums I wanted to present the same ideas in two languages, one more literal and the other more open to interpretation. Simulcast expands on the concepts laid out in Weather, but shifts into the abstract with instrumental soundscapes in place of lyrics, opening up a visual space and translating the message into a new language.”
Today, Tycho announced his upcoming album Simulcast out on February 28th, along with a brand new single “Outer Sunset.” The album serves as an instrumental companion to his GRAMMY-nominated album Weather which was released last year. The new single pairs with Weather’s "Skate” and gives a good indication of what’s to come in terms of sonic themes and influences. Its release is accompanied by dreamy new visuals inspired by the song’s eponymous surf town in San Francisco.
Celebrating his GRAMMY-nominated new album Weather, Tycho released a new EP called Stress. This three-track EP includes the Weather track, “No Stress” (feat. Saint Sinner), “No Stress (Instrumental)”, and a new recording “Stress” from Tycho’s anticipated upcoming instrumental album. Along with “No Stress” featuring Saint Sinner, there’s now a new official video showcasing live performance visuals. Watch the Official Music Video below.
We are beyond excited to share that Tycho’s album Weather has been nominated for Best Dance/Electronic album at the 2020 GRAMMY awards. The album features popular singles “Japan” and “Pink & Blue” and more for a total of eight extraordinary tracks. This is the second GRAMMY nomination for Tycho, whose previous album Epoch was nominated in the same category in 2016. With Weather, Tycho’s fifth studio album, Scott embarked on a journey to fulfill long-held vision of his: incorporating the human voice into his music. The endeavor signaled a bold shift in creative direction with the addition of musical collaboration and vocals by Saint Sinner to his previously instrumental-only sound. Huge congratulations to Scott and everyone involved in the Tycho project. It’s an honor to witness and support your creative journey which proves time and time again that it knows no bounds. We can’t wait to see what lies ahead. From the looks of it online… it seems new music may be on the horizon sooner than you might think…
