SEB has shared his first two singles of 2023, “sugarhoneyiceicetea” and "moving on (featuring Khary),” in anticipation of a new forthcoming project. Akin to last Fall’s “loving u is harder,” the new songs demonstrate the solo artist’s deepening skill set as a producer and musician (particularly in an unpredictable swerve into jazz during the bridge of “sugarhoneyiceicetea,” on which he played all the instruments).
SEB has been teasing out snippets of the songs on his TikTok, amassing almost 1mil views in under two weeks while also marking a shift in the tone of his account. "Recently on social media, I've been putting more focus on showing myself as a producer,” states SEB. “For a while, I felt like I was being perceived as an influencer first. That became tough just cause of how much time and care I put into my music. Once the focus of my videos changed, I also felt like people started connecting me to my music more."
The new music arrives amongst a series of firsts for the LA-based musician. The releases follow the completion of his first proper tour, supporting JAWNY on a run of sold out shows across the US. “moving on” also marks the first time he’s tapped another artist for a feature, bringing in a verse from Khary that provides a rap counterpoint to the sunset pop vibes of the hook while tapping in the thematic concept of the song. “I wanted it to play out like an episode of Atlanta, where things feel surreal, mostly because of the absurdity of certain situations,” states SEB. “But really, that’s just what I think it feels like to be Black anywhere in the world.”
