SEB
Growing up in Chicago – after hopping between New York, Haiti, Oklahoma and Miami – SEB has come a long way from free-styling over beats ripped from YouTube with his middle school rap group. Returning to New York for college, he interned at the iconic Electric Lady Studios where brief brushes with artistic giants spurred SEB on to seriously consider his artist project and make the move to LA.
Firmly in his own lane, SEB is inspired by emotionally charged songwriters like Kurt Cobain and Joni Mitchell, and other boundary-breaking artists like Tyler the Creator, Kid Cudi and Grimes. In a recent interview with Spindle Magazine, SEB explained “the fact that I’m black makes it hard for people to just call my music pop.” Adding “the whole point of my artist’s existence, right now, is fighting for the idea that a single black artist, who can write and produce their own music, can stand right next to a Taylor Swift or Harry Styles.”
SEB News
LA-based artist and producer SEB has just shared a new project we were so beautiful alongside a new video for the EP standout “home2u”. Fresh off his first tour in the US, supporting JAWNY and his first international dates in London, Paris, Copenhagen and Brighton, the new EP is a manifestation of SEB’s expanding skill as a producer and songwriter as he continues to experiment with both his sound and his sources of inspiration.
SEB has shared his first two singles of 2023, “sugarhoneyiceicetea” and "moving on (featuring Khary),” in anticipation of a new forthcoming project. Akin to last Fall’s “loving u is harder,” the new songs demonstrate the solo artist’s deepening skill set as a producer and musician (particularly in an unpredictable swerve into jazz during the bridge of “sugarhoneyiceicetea,” on which he played all the instruments).
SEB has just shared his latest single and first formal follow up to August’s IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING II: don’t worry, i’ll be fine. “loving u is harder” taps deep into the R&B undercurrents of SEB’s work, laying melancholy staccato vocal lines across a soulful guitar loop. "'loving u is harder' is about feeling blindsided by who someone actually is after falling in love with them,” states SEB. “The song also touches on the complicated dynamic of feeling dependent on someone despite knowing they aren't good for you."
Rising LA-based artist and producer SEB has just released his sophomore EP, IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING II: don’t worry, i’ll be fine. The project spans seven tracks, including the previously released singles “SAVE ME,” “fuck it, i’m the man,” and “get yo bread.”
Earlier last week SEB shared another video for standout track “3am in nyc,” stating that "'3am in nyc' serves as a snapshot of my time in NYC. Specifically those late nights, going out drinking and being on the train with my friends. At that time in my life, there was never anywhere I had to be, so every night was always an adventure: whether it was roaming the city, going out to bars or meeting new people in the most random places."
Rising LA-based artist and producer SEB has just announced his sophomore EP, IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING II: don’t worry, i’ll be fine, is slated for an August 19. The project spans seven tracks, including the previously released singles “SAVE ME” and “fuck it, i’m the man” as well as the new single “get yo bread,” shared today in conjunction with the announcement. "I wrote this song when I was probably at my lowest financially,” states SEB of the new single. “We were still in the middle of the pandemic and I was arguing everyday with unemployment. During that time, money was the focal point of everything, and more importantly what was I willing to do for it. The song starts with me screaming ‘get yo bread’ and by the end I'm right back where i started."
Rising LA-based artist and producer SEB has shared a cover of Chance the Rapper and Nosaj Thing’s classic “Paranoia” (from Chance’s seminal Acid Rap release) as part of Apple Music’s special 2022 Juneteenth initiative, a collection of exclusively-commissioned songs from artists that celebrate the continued and invaluable contribution of Black artistry to contemporary music.
Rising LA-based artist and producer SEB has just shared his second new track of the year “SAVE ME”. The song comes paired with a trippy VHS-shot music video that showcases a more melancholy side to SEB as he spirals down a path of self destruction over his own lo-fi ‘80s-inspired beat.
LA-based artist SEB has just shared “fuck it, i’m the man” on which the nascent pop artist evokes a home-fi spin on the 80’s Quincy Jones sound. The song follows last year’s “god of the sunsets” single and the IT’S OKAY, WE’RE DREAMING EP, dual manifestations of his genre-eschewing sound that owes as much to Joni Mitchell as to Tyler the Creator (and the latter of which featured his breakthrough hit “seaside_demo”).
SEB is back with a brand new single “god of the sunsets” and is paired with a bewitching music video. “God of the Sunsets” is a love song to sunsets; his way of thanking them for always being there
