Maya Hawke’s highly anticipated sophomore album, MOSS, is now available to stream on all platforms worldwide. The album was produced by Hawke and Lazar Davis and mixed by GRAMMY-winning engineer Jonathan Low at Long Pond Studios.
Austin Saalman from Under the Radar Magazine praised Hawke and MOSS, stating, “Maya Hawke emerges as one of the decade’s most promising artists and her newest album serves to reinforce the point. Striking, passionate, devastating, and, ultimately, revitalizing, MOSS is a breath of fresh air, a stirring vision of young adulthood in blue.”
Hawke says of the album, “It’s a heart-bursting, habit-breaking deep breath - for me at least. Making it felt like an emergency scavenger hunt of some kind. It’s sadder than I remember it. An attempt to organize a variety of feelings into some kind of style. Making it changed my life, both in the way it taught me to know myself and the people it brought deep into my heart that I will never let go of.”
Hawke wrote all 13 tracks on the album in collaboration with Lazar Davis, Christian Lee Hutson, and Will Graefe. Hawke’s poetic lyricism touches upon themes of relationships, self-reflection, and acceptance and have been lauded by critics including Rhian Daly at NME, who labeled her as “an increasingly excellent songwriter.”
Prior to the full album release, Hawke debut singles for “Thérèse,” “Sweet Tooth,” and “Luna Moth,” which was met with worldwide excitement and admiration. After announcing the album and first single “Thérèse” during her appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” the debut track was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist in 12 countries and landed a #1 placement on their Lorem playlist, as well as played on both Alternative and Public radio stations. To accompany “Thérèse,” Hawke later premiered a 35mm short film directed by Brady Corbet at a premiere screening and Q&A at the Metrograph in New York. Within 48 hours of the premiere, the video received over 1-million views, which led to charting in the United States and internationally on YouTube.
